Convolution is a formula that averages a pixel with the neighboring pixels that reside above and below that pixel.
Convolution causes a blurring effect between scan lines so that any horizontal line contains at least a portion of the scan lines above and below it. A portion of the horizontal line remains visible to avoid flicker.
The convolution formula follows a 1:2:1 ratio where the current pixel has twice the weight of its neighbors.
